Let's Talk Politics

  • Dec. 29th, 2007 at 11:55 AM

Politicians are all corrupt. No matter how much you believe their lies, or how well they sell them, they aren't going to do EVERYTHING they said while on campaign. They may not even do anything at all. For example. Politician one states he can fix all the roads in the country without raising taxes. Politician two says he can stop global warming. Which one is more important at the moment? You'd more likely vote for the guy who says he can stop one of the worlds' biggest problem than a guy who says he can fix some roads. In the end the winner declares that it will take at least 50 years to get a jump on things and instead of stopping it, he creates a 100 year goal for the country.

What is with this? He's not even going to be in office in 100 years. I also highly doubt he will be in office in 50. Why not stride for goals you can accomplish in a YEAR. Let's start small then get bigger. Say for example instead of decreasing the countries green house gas emissions by 30% in 50 years, lets try to get more electric and smart cars on the road by next year or have a tax deductible on them. People are more likely going to follow you and not think your such a dumbass for making a goal like that.

Then there are the politicians that can make things happen - but need your tax dollars. Alright we can fix all your roads, but there needs to be a 2% tax increase. You oblige and the go ahead and do it. Next thing you know the project costs more than they expected and they are too far to back out and need to charge you more taxes so that you’re paying ten times as much.

Next are the politicians who completely lie to you and throw a wrench into society. Say for example they promised a no tax increase. Well a year later they are upping the tax a whopping 5 percent and you can't do anything. Oh and to make up on someone else's stupid mistakes they need to cut funds where they are needed, but then somehow manage to fund the stupid non significant stuff, like let's make a new city hall when instead we could put the money into the healthcare system cause its such a big fail.

A political figure that everyone knows in the world and who annoys me is the Queen. What is her purpose? She sits there, does basically nothing, and attends meetings, ect. She is head of a number of countries and the British military and god knows what else. There was a time when the Queen was a prominent figure in society and actually DID something. Then came the days of the politician and completely set her to the backside. She even has to pay taxes now.

I personally believe we should bring back some responsibility to the Queen or whoever the royal blood person is in charge at the time. They should be in charge of international affairs, and be a prominent person at UN meetings. Let’s let the people decide whether they want her as head of the army. I'd rather someone who was experienced and has years of practice to be making
decisisions
than a woman who just has it handed down to her.

All in all I would just like ONE politician who isn't corrupt, a liar or completely useless. But that seems like a far off dream that will never happen.

Vancouver 2010 Olympic Mascots

  • Nov. 28th, 2007 at 5:55 PM

Sorry I haven't posted! I will make up for it by double posting today. This is about the new mascots for the 2010 winter olympic games. Their names are Miga, Sugi and Quatchi. They are a sea-bear, a sasquatch and an animal guardian spirit. Personally in my opinion these mascots are too cute. I will definitly buy something with them on it. People are saying they look too much like Chinese and Japanese Anime characters, and although I agree they look like anime characters, I find that they are definitely cute and cuddly, and are a personal favourite to me. Although what I have found is that the Vancouver Olympic Symbol - the Inukshuk is not that great, although other people seem to disagree and believe it is great. I just don't see it.

I believe that children everywhere, and adults alike would love to buy something that is kid friendly and adult friendly at the same time. They are interesting to look at, and I believe that the Olympic Committee will create a lot of money from these little guys. Hopefully people in Canada and all over the world will look past that they look like Chinese characters (while in retrospect, the Chinese characters seem like ancient aboriginal drawings) and endorce and embrace the Canadian Characters.

Christmas - A Retailers Dream?

  • Nov. 24th, 2007 at 9:28 PM

Today my rant is on Christmas. I love the season and the festivities but I also hate it at the same time. While I love giving and receving presents, I feel that the season is more of a consumer and economic purpose than one that celebrates family. People are prepared to spend more on something dyring christmas. I don't see parents unless they are rich going out and dropping hundreds or even thousands of dollars for a few items for their children or spouses. And every year the children and even sometimes the spouses think that that the gift giving should be topped. If they had 15 presents last year this year they want 16.

There is also the huge market of decorations. While I love decorated houses, they are a waste of electricty. Although I must say that people are getting more aware of the effects of all those lights on their bills and to the environment and buying the new LED lights that create less electricity, yet some people still do not buy them because they cost too much. For a pack of 30 lights it is around 6 or 7 dollars? I think its ridiculous.

I believe that christmas is now aimed towards buying and spending more than friends and family. Just add up all the bills you have accumulated during the past months for christmas, it adds up right? especially if you are buying for your friends. You don't have to break your wallet and the bank just for christmas! Here are some tips and tricks:
